Community interest company selected from more than 20,000 nominations

An organisation that celebrates and supports diversity in North Devon has been shortlisted for a major national award.

Community interest company (CIC) North Devon Sunrise is one of eight in its field selected from more than 20,000 nominations.

It will find out if it’s a winner at the National Diversity Awards in Liverpool on September 16.

The black-tie event at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral is being held to recognise the charities, role models and community heroes working to support minority groups, as well as the elderly; victims of domestic abuse; refugees and asylum seekers; and lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) communities.

North Devon Sunrise has made the shortlist for the Community Organisation Award for its LGBT support work.

The Barnstaple-based CIC was established in 2009 as a social group for refugees, migrant workers and asylum seekers but has since grown to support a wider range of community groups.

On Saturday, North Devon Sunrise held a diversity festival in Barnstaple.
