Bicclescombe Park in Ilfracombe and Barnstaple’s Yeo Valley Community Woodland have received a Green Flag Award, joining 18 other parks in Devon to be given the mark of a quality green space.

Both parks are owned and managed by North Devon Council, with the help of active community groups such as the Friends of Yeo Valley Woodland and the Bicclescombe Park User Group.

This is the 15th consecutive year that Bicclescombe Park has achieved Green Flag status, with Yeo Valley Community receiving the Award for the eighth time.

The council’s executive member for parks, leisure and culture, Councillor Dick Jones, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for Bicclescombe Park and Yeo Valley for so many years running.

“This award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining both areas, so I would like to extend my thanks to the Parks team at North Devon Council and to the dedicated group of volunteers who keep them both to such a high standard.”

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
