HRH The Earl of Wessex will be touring the region on Tuesday

Swimbridge is among the communities looking forward to meeting Prince Edward on Tuesday as he visits the village during a busy North Devon tour.

HRH The Earl of Wessex will visit projects including the new Streamside Garden at the church and the newly refurbished Jubilee Hall. He will be unveiling a plaque to mark his visit.

Then it is off to officially name the new Seamoor Unit at North Devon District Hospital, where Gazette editor Andy Keeble will be among those waiting to meet him.

He will also visit Royal Wessex Yeomanry at Barnstaple Territorial Army Centre, West Buckland School and Bideford Air Cadets.

The Swimbridge Streamside Garden saw the church and community work together to turn an unused and overgrown part of the churchyard into a new communal space.

HRH will be led around the garden and the Jubilee Hall by Lady Arran, Colin Wadsworth, David Netherway and Julie Whitton. He will meet those involved in the projects, funders, supporters and representatives of groups who use and enjoy them.

Lady Arran said: “What an honour for Swimbridge to be receiving its first royal visit in its long history. The Earl of Wessex with his great interest in the South West will receive a very warm welcome from the community who have been so involved with the village projects.”

The hall will be open following the visit with free refreshments and an opportunity to meet people involved with the projects.
