The councillors will focus their efforts on Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and South Molton.

Three of North Devon Council (NDC)’s leading councillors have been tasked with overseeing the ‘regeneration’ of three towns in the district.

Executive councillors Pat Barker, Rodney Cann and Des Brailey will be putting ‘extra efforts’ into finding opportunities for regenerating Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and South Molton, as well as continuing their current duties on the council.

Cllr Barker, executive member for economic restoration, will oversee regeneration of the district as a whole, with particular attention to Barnstaple.

She said: “Barnstaple is the hub of North Devon and working with my colleagues at the district and town councils I want to help sympathetically develop the town further to enhance the experience of visiting or using the town.

In Ilfracombe, cllr Cann will assist with the regeneration of Ilfracombe, and will take over as NDC’s representative on the One Ilfracombe board.

The executive member for environment said the regeneration of the town was a ‘priority for positive action’.

NDC leader Des Brailey will continue to focus on regeneration in South Molton, an area which he believes has ‘tremendous potential’.

He said :”I have been assisting South Molton with projects over the last 12 months. I believe there is tremendous potential for the area, working with my district colleagues and importantly with South Molton Town Council, I am sure we can unlock future opportunities for this area.
