An architect has been appointed for a brand new Cancer and Wellbeing Centre in North Devon, as the fundraising appeal breaches the £300,000 mark.Ahead of World Cancer Day on Sunday, Over and Above has announced the next step will be putting the contract for the build out to tender.Ian Roome, fundraising manager for the appeal, said: It is a very exciting time for us and our patients to offer a dedicated service to help at a time they need it the most. The centre will also provide a relatives wing which will be for parents and loved ones of patients who are being treated in North Devon District Hospital. The aim is to take away some of the worry for relatives who need to focus on the wellbeing of a loved one in our care. With the help of a £50,000 donation from the North Devon Cancer Care Centre Trust, the £1.5million appeal has reached £330,000. Ian added: Our aim is to offer our cancer patients and their families a dedicated support centre which they can access at any stage of their illness, offering a wide range of information and support services within a comfortable environment. The facility will offer a drop-in service, providing information on cancer and other conditions, counselling and psychological support, financial and benefits advice, hair loss support, nutritional advice, health and wellbeing events and courses. The centre will not just be open to our patients, but will also be available to relatives and carers who can receive support and ask any questions they may have about conditions and treatments, as well as any concerns they may have about themselves. The new relatives accommodation wing will include three en-suite family size bedrooms, which will enable families and loved ones of patients to stay onsite in comfortable and friendly accommodation.
