An Appledore cafe has taken two foodie favourites and made the ultimate combination: a gin cream tea.

Johns of Appledore has begun selling the new Devon cream teas with an alcoholic twist.

As well as freshly baked scones, the gin cream tea comes with raspberry gin jam and a pink gin and tonic on the side.

The idea for the popular combination came about when owners Sue and Anthony Johns discovered the Pinkster gin jam.

"We were just wowed by it and we thought it was a good idea to build into a traditional Devon cream tea," said Sue.

"We have only just put them on the menu but so far they have proved popular."

The gin cream tea is currently only available in the Appledore shop, which has recently been refitted.

The refurbishment came about after Sue and Anthony successfully applied for Leader 5 European funding.
