North Devon blood donors honoured

Ten North Devon blood donors were among those honoured for rolling up their sleeves to help save lives at an awards ceremony held by NHS Blood and Transplant.

John Seymour from Lynton received a crystal decanter to celebrate his impressive 100 blood donations.

John Dewis from Braunton, Paul Francis from Pilton, Roderick Norman from Littabourne Park, Roger Heywood from Yelland, Janet Mandley from Torrington, David Swindells from Westward, Michael Pryer and Edwin Gardiner from Fremington and Brian Brown from Bideford were presented with commemorative crystal plates for making 75 blood donations each.

Every blood donation can potentially save the lives of three people, so the dedication of the ten blood donors could have helped prevent the deaths of up to 2,325 patients in local hospitals.

Mr Seymour said: “I like to keep myself fit and healthy and will carry on giving blood for as long as I am able to. I am glad to play a part in the improvement of sick and injured people’s lives.”
