House prices in North Devon and Torridge crept up in July, according to the latest figures.

In North Devon prices were up 0.1 per cent on the previous year, and in Torridge they were up 0.3 per cent.

The latest data from the Office of National Statistics shows that the average property in North Devon sold for £227,166.

In Torridge, the average property sold for a more modest £214,647. Both districts were slightly under the UK average of £231,422.

Overall, house prices have risen by 2.5 per cent in Torridge over the last 12 months.

But in North Devon, there has been a 6.8 per cent fall in prices over the same timescale.

The data comes from the House Price Index, which the Office of National Statistics compiles using house sale information from the Land Registry.

The average homeowner in Torridge will have seen their property jump in value by around £42,000 in the last five years.

North Devon saw the third-largest average price drop of any authority in the UK over the last 12 months.

However the average homeowner will have seen their property jump in value by around £30,000 in the last five years.
