Last night (Saturday, May 18), ITV viewers saw the Bideford 19-year-old confidently complete most of the tricky obstacle course before meeting his personal nemesis the spinning logs.

Rather than running or jumping across the double logs, he adopted a cautious cling on approach - that watching presenters were not sure was allowed - before falling inches from the end.

Even then, he almost saved himself but was disqualified when he grabbed the safety mat rather than the obstacle - an illegal move.

Sam was left watching the rest of the competition anxiously in the hope he could still go through to the final as one of the fastest who failed to complete the course.

His luck was in and he managed to squeeze through to the final in 17th place out of 20.

Viewers can see how he fares with the tricky final eliminator course this Saturday (May 25) on ITV at 6.30pm.
