New vicar for Northam parish

ST MARGARET’S Church in Northam was filled to capacity last Thursday for the licensing of the parish’s new vicar, the Reverend Canon Dr Ian Lovett, by the Bishop of Exeter, the Right Reverend Michael Langrish

Dr Lovett, who was formerly a hospital chaplain in Aintree, is to be the new Mission Team Leader for the parishes of Northam, Westward Ho! and Appledore. Many years ago he was a deputy head at Beam College near Torrington before moving on to a parish in Plymouth.

The service was attended by many parishioners, well wishers, family and friends and representatives of the church schools, town council and local ministers welcomed him to the parish.

Dr Lovett fills the position left vacant nearly two years ago by the retirement of the Reverend Richard Frost. He conducted his first service at St Margaret’s Church on Sunday.
