Hugh Brading was officially made the new mayor of Northam, with Kenny Davis as deputy mayor.

The new Mayor of Northam officially took his post last week.

Hugh Brading was made mayor on Wednesday, with Kenny Davis as deputy.

Mr Brading has been a Northam Town Councillor for two years, and stood for election as an Independent.

He promised a pedestrian crossing by Northam Pool and to campaign to stop any development at Knapp House which might threaten the shipyard.

Mr Brading said: “This year will be a busy one with festoon lighting finally being installed on Appledore Quay and on part of the Westward Ho! Promenade.

“Also scheduled is the transfer of ownership to Northam Town Council of Lords Meadow and Ridgeway Drive play grounds .

“Finally Northam Town Council has decided to create a neighbourhood plan to ensure our countryside, riverbanks and coastal areas are retained unspoilt for future generations and our vital tourist trade and that a proper infrastructure is created to accommodate further housing.”
