THE new joint managers at Chulmleigh's Globe Inn are hoping that their newly improved bedrooms will attract more tourists to the village and improve business. Nicola Handsford and Mark Wheeler, have more than 30 years' experience in the hospitality and catering trade between them. Both have been working hard to improve the landmark pub and think the new rooms plus the quality new menu will attract more people to the area. The re-emergence of the Inn has been warmly welcomed by locals and been made possible by pub company London Town, which is running a highly successful campaign of pub re-openings throughout the country. Despite a trend towards pub closures, London Town focuses on identifying outlets which it believes have a viable future given the right management input and logistical support. It has already re-opened 125 pubs, creating more than 500 jobs in the process. Nicola said: "Since the pub re-opened in January, we have installed a new kitchen and raised the standard of the bedrooms for guests. There is now one twin room and one double room, both of which are full fitted with en-suite facilities, and they will be ready very shortly. We have also installed wi-fi access for customers." Mark said: "Chulmleigh has a lot to offer with the town's rich heritage and the beautiful scenery. We want people to experience the surroundings and the great atmosphere created in the pub." The Globe Inn is a traditional old building and is split into two large rooms, one for diners, and the other with a darts board, big screen and the "best pool table in Chulmleigh", according to Mark.
