Four hungry contestants took on the brand new ‘Macho Nacho’ eating challenge at the Custom House in Barnstaple - watch how the got on here.

A new eating challenge has launched at the Custom House in Barnstaple for those who think they’re ‘macho’ enough.

The ‘Macho Nacho’ challenge sees contestants try and finish a bucket of nachos topped with brisket, pulled pork, chilli, cheese and all the trimmings in less than 25 minutes.

Those who do will bag the meal for free and a place on the coveted wall of fame.

The challenge launched at the newly-refurbished and rebranded restaurant on The Strand on Wednesday.

Four hungry contestants took on the challenge: Tom Carpenter, Paul Newman, Steve Short, and Gazette reporter Matt Smart.

But with all four were defeated by the challenge, the first spot on the wall of fame is still up for grabs.

Owner Matt Spencer said: “We’ve been open six years now this new brand is much more ‘us’.

“We’ve kept the concept of the menu the same but added some of the specials that have been really popular over the years.”
