SALTASH firm WH Bond has acquired the sawmill on the Clinton Estate at Merton and will open for business on Monday.

The sawmill, which has been closed for a couple of years, complements the Clinton Gates business, which the firm also acquired at the beginning of this month.

Established in 1957, W?H Bond & Sons has its roots in farming and the family continues to farm 1,500 acres in South East Cornwall.

Today, the business comprises seven inter-linked departments - timber sales, plant hire and sales, landscaping, civil engineering, recycling, training and agriculture.

In 2003, the firm acquired Bake Sawmill near Saltash and now employs 22 full-time staff in this department with timber and associated sales in the region of �4 million.
