School submits application for multi million pound rebuild

Plans have been lodged for a multi-million pound new school for Ilfracombe.

It is proposed to demolish the old inefficient Ilfracombe Academy building and create a modern building capable of taking 1,200 pupils.

A new sports hall would be built first, followed by the main building which will stand where the sports hall is now.

BAM Construction and Stride Treglown Architects have been appointed to the project.

The existing art block will be kept, together with the newer dining hall building, which will be converted in the design and technology department.
