A NEW set of goalposts have been put up in Brauntons recreational ground for young people to use. The project came about after damage was caused to the Illingworth Shelter and houses behind it by young people using it as a goal post. They were also climbing into the garden over the boundary wall to retrieve the balls which were overshot, causing privacy and security issues among residents. A local person, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated £1,000 towards finding a solution to the problem. Braunton Parish Council met with police, Braunton Football Club and two young people to discuss providing a practice goal post in the recreational ground. The council purchased the steel goalpost and net supports for a total of £600 and will use the remaining money to work with the young people of Braunton to further improve the recreational ground. A new sign has also been installed on the shelter stating no ball games are allowed on or near to it.
