New footpath open for business in South Molton

WALKERS have celebrated the opening of a new public footpath at South Molton by pulling on their boots and setting off down the trail for an inaugural walk.

On Wednesday the 24 members of South Molton Striders Walking Group made their way from the town Square to Alswear and back, taking in the newly opened public right of way from Blastridge Plantation to Alswear.

The path has been opened following the efforts of STRIDE (Strengthening Trails In Devon) whose objectives are to improve access to the countryside for walkers, horse riders and cyclists.

The new footpath follows Radleigh Copse, the River Mole, and the Crooked Oak Stream. After their walk the 24 members and one dog retired to the Town Arms in South Molton for refreshments.
