TWO long-standing councillors have been chosen to help steer Ilfracombe Town Council into 2009.Councillor Geoff Fowler, now Mayor-elect, will step into the role this May, while Cllr Frank Pearson becomes deputy mayor.Cllr Fowler, a Devon County and former district councillor, has laboured on behalf of the town for many years and been a leading mover for regeneration, as well as chairman of the Ilfracombe Community Interest Company, formerly the Alliance.Cllr Pearson is in his third term as a town councillor, after being elected in 1999 and is also a former chairman of CIC.Both are involved in community projects - among them the bid for harbour regeneration, youth projects and the proposed North Devon to South Wales ferry service.They take over from outgoing Mayor John Swan and deputy mayor Margaret Blundell.On behalf of them both, Mr Fowler said they were looking forward to the coming year: "We feel we have already built up a good partnership which will hopefully be to the benefit of this council and the community at large," he said."We both feel there are exciting times ahead for the town."An all-weather pitch near the college and the ferry service are particularly close to his heart.Cllr Pearson said he looked forward to supporting Cllr Fowler in everything they hoped to achieve for the community and its youth here.
