The Big Care and Business Show is coming to Barnstaple in November.

A former care worker is launching a brand new app and putting on Barnstaple's first care and business show in November.

Kevin Allen, who has a background in business shows, will be launching The Big Care and Business Show on Friday, November 3, at Barnstaple Hotel.

He has also designed a brand new app, called eCarerApp, which will help carers with various tasks such as directions to people's homes, their care plans and medication needs.

Kevin said he discovered the need for the app when he worked as a carer for 12 months.

He said: "Having been there, I know what it is like for carers.

"Sometimes you turn up at someone's house with no idea what their needs are, and I think that lack of support is what turns people away from the job."

Kevin, who now works in training for carers, said he also wanted to put on the care and business show in the town.

"I think it's the first of it's kind, in that it's business-to-business but also for the general public," he said.

"There will be stands for people who wants to find out about care homes, or about a career in care, for example.

"But there will also be a chance for businesses to network and the night before we'll be putting on a networking evening."

The Gazette will be supporting The Big Care and Business Show as part of it's #CouldYouCare campaign.

The campaign comes as figures show across the South West in general, it is thought an extra 30,000 new care jobs will be needed by 2025.

The vacancy rate is estimated at 6.9 per cent with some 9,000 adult social care vacancies across the region at any one time.

The Big Care and Business Show will run from 10am-4pm and there are still stands available for anyone who wishes to exhibit.
