A flower and plant venture has joined forces with Appledore’s Market Street Kitchen Cafe to form a quirky new business in its garden.

The Shop in the Garden opened on March 30 and is run by self-styled ‘gentle gardener’ Angie Whitaker, who has looked after it for the last two and a half years, along with Market Street Kitchen owner Josie Gosbee.

Angie was inspired by the love of nature to use the property’s brick shed to sell local plants, British flowers and gifts. These include a range of craft items made by the residents of Kalm Assisted Living in Appledore.

Angie and Josie also pay tribute to a well known and much loved local character called Lizzie, who used to sell plants and flowers in Appledore.

The outdoor eatery has a terraced herb and flower garden to enjoy Kirsty Fisher and her kitchen team’s home cooked dishes.

The menu capitalises on access to fresh local ingredients and herbs from the garden, which are used throughout the year.

Angie said: ”Fresh flowers from the South West will be available each week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and if you live in Appledore, bouquet delivery is free.

“Everyone is welcome to visit this quirky little treasure trove which opens daily from 11am.”

Market Street Kitchen opens daily from 10 am. Both at 25 Market Street, Appledore.
