NEW double-decker buses are being launched on the X9 service from Exeter to Bude. Three new low floor buses will now operate on the service, which travels via Okehampton and Holsworthy. The fleet will be officially launched at the Manor Car Park in Holsworthy tomorrow, Friday. The X9 has been re-named the Atlantic Coast Express, which is the name once used by the Southern Railway for its express train serving Bude, Holsworthy and Okehampton. The X9 route links Bude, Holsworthy and Okehampton to National rail network at Exeter St Davids Station. Devon County Council has contributed to the funding of the new vehicles and it also financially supports part of the X9 service - Sundays and Friday and Saturday evenings. The remainder of the service is operated commercially by First.Managing director of First Devon and Cornwall, Marc Reddy, said: "It's great to be able to add extra capacity to routes such as the X9. It's an important link connecting one of Devon's largest cities with the coast, and it's very well used by our customers. The new buses on this route will be more comfortable and the low floors will make them more accessible for people in wheelchairs or those with buggies. This clearly demonstrates excellent partnership working with Devon County Council on improving public transport in the county."For all timetable enquiries in the south west call Traveline on 0871 200 22 33.
