The Board of the Appledore Instow Ferry has been given funding through the Leader 5 programme to contribute towards the replacement of Misty Blue. The volunteer organisation operates crossings between the two villages between April and October. The new ferry will be able to carry 12 passengers and will have much more deck space than Misty Blue, which has reached the end of her serviceable life. Roger Levick, a volunteer member of the ferry team, said: To say that we, as an organisation, are delighted would be like saying the suns surface is warm - the cheering must have been heard on both sides of the Torridge. More space, more comfort, more safety - a win, win, win situation. The funding was accessed through North Devon Plus, a not-for-profit company that works with local councils and the private sector to deliver projects that support businesses and communities in North Devon. North Devon Plus has supported more than 70 businesses and community groups with more than £1.6million of funding through the European Leader programme. Louise Adam, programme delivery manager for Leader 5, said: We are delighted to be able to support Appledore and Instow Ferry with a grant towards their new boat, it provides a fantastic service to both local residents and tourists alike.
