Six new properties were made available for local families at the Coldstream Gardens scheme.

RESIDENTS of a new affordable housing development in Merton came together to celebrate the official opening this week.

The £715,320 Coldstream Gardens scheme provided six affordable homes for local families and was supported by an investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The land was provided by Clinton Devon Estates at no cost as part of a planning agreement with Torridge District Council.

Susie Quick, a resident at Coldstream Gardens said: “Living in this house has been a dream come true for me and my family.

“Being near to our friends and family is so important to us, we were eager to live in the same area as them, now we live right across the road from my father meaning we can all spend quality time together.”

Lord Clinton from Clinton Devon Estates said affordable homes for local families were a ‘key driver’ in order for rural communities to remain vibrant.

He added: “Families who support the local economy, the school and the community in its widest sense.”

Philip Collins, leader of Torridge, said: “I thank everyone involved for making this project a reality.

“I am delighted that these homes are all occupied by tenants with a local connection.”

Asad Butt, HCA area manager, added: “I am really pleased to see this scheme officially celebrated and I hope all the residents have many more happy years in their homes.”
