North Devon District Hospital staff are putting on a special Christmas dementia support café.

The session will be held on Wednesday, December 19 at the hospital’s Raleigh Galley Restaurant.

As well as the advice, refreshments and entertainment available at regular sessions, there will be carols, mince pies and even a visit from Santa.

The dementia support café launched in August. Sessions are held on the first and third Wednesday of every month and offer a place where people caring for those living with dementia can learn more about dementia and the local support available, whilst volunteers spend time with their loved one.

Angela Walter, Admiral nurse at Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “We wanted to put on something special this Christmas for anyone living with dementia and those who care for them. Everyone is welcome – come and have a mince pie and a cup of tea, and join in.

“As well as all the Christmas fun we’ve got going on, we’re here to listen, advise and help people living with dementia and their carers, so please do come and chat with us whilst our volunteers spend time with your loved ones.”
