The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon is celebrating after being awarded Full Accreditation by the Arts Council for another three years - the highest level of national recognition for museums. It serves as a hallmark of quality for museums across the UK and to qualify, the management of the museum, services offered and how collections are cared for must all meet a set of exacting standards. The museum has been fully accredited since the scheme was introduced, but has to be reassessed every three years. Executive member responsible for leisure and culture, Councillor Dick Jones, said: I was truly pleased to hear that the museum has retained its accreditation. It is great recognition for the hard work and dedication of the team of staff and volunteers who are driving the museum forward and providing a fantastic resource for North Devon. Well done everyone, this is well deserved. Museum manager Alison Mills, said: This is great news for the museum, as not only does it recognise the quality of our museum, it raises our profile in the arts sector and strengthens our opportunities for private and public funding. I would like to thank all the staff and volunteers for everything they do. The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, admission is free.
