TSB Barnstaple hosts Peter Heaton-Jones MP during coffee morning to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance
TSB Barnstaple welcomed North Devon’s MP today (Friday) as the region celebrated Local Charities Day.
The Joy Street branch was holding its annual December cake sale and coffee morning to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance when Peter Heaton-Jones MP called in.
The air ambulance is its chosen charity for 2016-17 and since September the branch has raised £800 for the cause.
Mr Heaton-Jones said he was visiting people in the area who were working in the run up to Christmas and also to highlight Local Charities Day and the many groups, individuals and businesses who raise money for good causes.
He said he had recently donated a personal tour of the Houses of Parliament as an auction prize to raise money for the charity.
“I am delighted Devon Air Ambulance is the chosen charity of TSB Barnstaple this year,” he said.
“Wherever I can I am always happy to help that because the air ambulance is now extending its hours of operation to midnight, so that’s added another million a year to their operating costs.
“The Government has announced changes to tax laws that will benefit DAA and we need all the money we can find through whatever means to keep these vital services going.”
