Peter Heaton-Jones says popular beauty spot should remain a place to be enjoyed

North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones has lent his support to those fighting to preserve the Mannings Pit beauty spot at Pilton.

The land, which has been a popular place for locals for generations, has been sold to an unnamed buyer and there are fears it may become a target for development.

Mr Heaton-Jones made a tour of the site on Saturday. He said: “For many generations it has been used as a place for children to play, dogs to be walked and nature to be enjoyed and part of it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. I wholly agree it should stay that way.

“Of course we don’t know who has bought the land or what their plans for it are. But I would appeal to them to think very carefully before making any decisions.”
