North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones says he will continue to fight at every opportunity for local investment under new Prime Minister Theresa May.Mr Heaton-Jones also reaffirmed his backing for the Prime Minister designate, who takes over from David Cameron tomorrow (Wednesday). He said: I am delighted that Theresa May is our new Prime Minister. I supported the Home Secretary because I believed she would be the strong, experienced leader Britain needs at this uncertain time, and so I am pleased that we are having a quick succession.Theresa May has said Brexit means Brexit, and there is no question that she will achieve the best possible terms for our departure from the EU. Its time to put the leave/remain divisions behind us, and Theresa May is the right person to unite the country.Mr Heaton-Jones said he met Mrs May last week to discuss her vision for the UK. He said: I pressed her on the need for investment in the South West and North Devon in particular. I will continue to push our case at every opportunity with the new Prime Minister.David Cameron has been a successful, reforming and election-winning Prime Minister and I am sorry to see his departure, he added. But we will now move ahead with Theresa May as our new leader, and she has my full support.Click here to return to our homepage for more North Devon news.
