GEOFFREY Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, congratulated Appledore villagers on the renovation and re-opening of the Appledore Hall and bar, formerly run by the British Legion Club, on Easter Saturday. In formally re-opening the club at the invitation of Chairman David Glover, the MP paid tribute to the new hall committee, renamed the Appledore Community and Sports Association and to the voluntary hard work and generosity of local people who had performed wonders in a short time to get the club open again and looking in such fine condition. Well over 150 people came to sample the entertainment and atmosphere of the revamped club.Last year, the MP chaired a packed meeting of villagers, at which he had suggested forming the new committee, and since then he has maintained a close interest in developments. Geoffrey Cox said: "The hall is part of the history of Appledore and this wonderful achievement shows what can be done when a community is determined not to let go of something important to it. It is a tribute to the village's community spirit, which it is essential that we do all we can to foster and to protect in our villages and towns.
