Peter Heaton-Jones has written to the Queen to ask her to visit in 2016, 60 years since her last visit to Barnstaple
North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones has invited the Queen to North Devon, 60 years on from her famous visit to Barnstaple.
This week, Queen Elizabeth II became Britain’s longest-serving monarch.
Mr Heaton-Jones said: “I wanted to write to The Queen on behalf of North Devon to mark this extremely special anniversary.
“It’s not a formal invitation, because there are various protocols surrounding the process, but I wanted to make clear that we would be honoured if the Queen would visit us again.
“Many people remember her visit to Barnstaple in 1956, and so the 60th anniversary would be a perfect occasion to return.”
