A Bideford motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after a three vehicle collision at Winkleigh on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A3124 at around 1.50pm after the collision between a blue Yamaha TDM 900cc bike, a red Volkswagen Polo estate and a white Nissan Interstar van.

The 43-year-old motorcyclist was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he remains in a stable condition in the intensive care unit. Police said he had suffered broken bones in the chest area, but they were not thought to be life threatening.

The occupants of the other vehicles were not injured.

The road was closed for four hours while police carried out an investigation.
