SOUTH Molton Town Council has opened talks with supermarket chain Morrisons who, like Tesco, have expressed an interest in coming to the town.Last night (Tuesday), councillors met representatives from Morrisons to hold private talks at an extraordinary town council meeting in the town hall. The meeting was arranged after the supermarket company sent a letter to the town council seeking the opportunity to meet with councillors to show what they could offer South Molton.Prior to last night's meeting, Cllr Sue Sewell told the Gazette: "Morrisons had heard that Tesco were very close to closing a deal with the district council and have asked for an opportunity to talk with the town council before any final decision is made."Following the meeting, Cllr David Worden said that Morrisons were planning to submit amended plans for a development in the town's central car park area."Morrisons submitted original plans about three years ago but they didn't find favour with planners," he told the Gazette this morning (Wednesday)."They told us they have decided to re-visit the situation and amend the plans in light of what was said last night.
