More time needed for Barnstaple homes plan

Developers apply for an extension on planning permission for 36 homes on the St Joseph’s Nursing Home site

Time up for Newport development: Sanctuary Housing has applied for a time extension on plans to build 36 homes at the former St Joseph’s Nursing Home site in Barnstaple.

The site on Landkey Road at Newport has proved controversial: Following a lengthy planning process permission was granted by North Devon Council to build 23 houses and 13 flats.

Some residents said they feared anti social problems when a year later Sanctuary announced all 36 properties on the estate would become affordable homes. The company said 27 properties would be for rent and nine for shared ownership.

No reason was given in the renewed application regarding the need for the time extension.
