Events are hotting up for North Devon Day on May 23 with more than 20 groups, businesses and individuals already planning fund-raising events in aid of North Devon Hospice.Teresa Crossman - creator of the private enterprise North Devon Flag - came up with the idea of celebrating the history, culture and beauty of region last year. Gerard Fawcitt of the hospice fundraising team said: "We are encouraging local people to put on a fund-raiser for us, whether it's a cream tea, jumble sale, a car wash, a barbecue - it could be anything you choose." "Teresa Crossman has again very kindly agreed to give each event a free North Devon Flag if you would like to display one on the day. We can create posters for you to promote your event and help in any way we can." The latest group to support North Devon Day on May 23 is Edinburgh Woollen Mill at Atlantic Village, Bideford, whose staff are planning a chocolate fountain for visitors, with fruit matching the North Devon Day flag colours. Gill Cook, assistant manager, said: "We are delighted to support North Devon Hospice as many of us have a personal hospice connection. My grandmother was cared for by the hospice ; she died at home in the care of a wonderful hospice community nurse. The whole family was supported by the hospice which was precious."In addition to the chocolate fountain, the staff will be offering teas and coffees, with donations going to the hospice. While the staff are offering chocolate delights, one of their number, Andy Norman, is planning his own fund-raising event on North Devon Day - an eight-round sponsored golf marathon! Andy said: "I'm a PGA golf professional and I've done a golf marathon before, which will mean me starting my first round at sunrise and, with a bit of luck, finishing my final round around 9.30pm." If you would like to sponsor Andy, please go to www.justgiving.com or contact him on 07729 379956.If you want to organise your own fund-raising event, complete the form on this page and send it back to the hospice.
