Readers have been expressing both joy and frustration at Roundswell plans which include a new Costa Coffee, Aldi and Marston’s pub.

Gazette readers have been responding to plans for a new Costa, Aldi and Marston’s pub in a major new retail development.

The plans for the new St Johns Garden Centre off Roundswell Roundabout have been the subject of a contentious debate on our Facebook page.

Garden centre owners Nick and Simon Oliver told the Gazette the planning application for the £10million development is expected in the new year.

Emjay Edgy said on Facebook: “Will be lovely to have a new St Johns. Don’t know about the rest - more than enough supermarkets and coffee shops already.”

And Dan Harvey added: “Sounds great.”

But some were less positive about the idea of an Aldi or Costa Coffee.

Nicola Cadogan said: “Stupid idea. We don’t need anymore supermarkets and coffee shops, and traffic will get worse than it already is...”

And Wendy McCartney added: “We’ve already got two Costas plus the one in Tesco. How about a different coffee shop?”

Others raised concerns about the volume of cars in the area, with Maureen Sobey saying: “Where will all the traffic go?”
