Peter Heaton-Jones appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary in Theresa May’s new government

North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones has been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) at the Department for Work and Pensions.

The role, often known as a ‘ministerial aide’ involves assisting ministers in their parliamentary duties and providing a link between the Government and backbench MPs. The positon carries no salary.

Mr Heaton-Jones, who was elected in May 2015, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the position of Parliamentary Private Secretary in Theresa May’s new government.

“The role is at the Department for Work and Pensions - a vital area of policy and one in which I take a special interest.

“I will of course ensure that my work for North Devon still takes priority, and am reviewing my overall Westminster responsibilities to take account of this.

“In fact it will be an advantage to be part of the Government, giving me more influence to fight for our area.

“I feel privileged to have been asked to take on this job after a relatively short period as an MP, and look forward to working as part of the new government team.”
