A memorial walk to honour the Burma veterans of World War II will take place at Filleigh on Sunday, November 1.

The walk will make its way to the top of Proutworthy Lane where Scots pines and very recently an oak memorial bench have been placed in memory of those who fought and fell in the Far East conflict.

Stunning views await after the short but steep climb, with Dartmoor and the sea both visible. The memorial was erected by the Burma Veterans Association with the help and support of Lady Margaret Fortescue.

All are welcome to join the walk, which departs at 2.30pm from the Shoot Lodge. On return walkers will be treated to a free cream tea.

Those who cannot make the walk but would like to drop in for tea are welcome, with a £3.50 donation for the Burma Veterans Welfare Fund. To help give an idea of numbers, anyone attending either event is asked to call (01598) 760332.
