MERLIN from Britain's Got Talent was buried in more than 19,000 draw tickets when he officiated at this year's Megadraw in Barnstaple.
After extricating himself, he drew the winning tickets in the community draw run by six North Devon Rotary Clubs.
This year, 82 groups sold the draw tickets to raise money for their funds, keeping all the money for themselves.
The draw, run for the seventh year by Rotary Clubs in Barnstaple, South Molton, Ilfracombe, Torrington and Bideford, raised more than £19,000 for the participating organisations.
It was all made possible thanks to the major sponsor Roundswell Hyundai , which sponsored the tickets and Ilfracombe, Bideford and Barnstaple Rotary Clubs which donated the other main prizes. This year's prizes with had estimated value in excess of £2400
To date the Megadraw has raised more than £150,000 for local charities and groups. This year the Ilfracombe and North Devon Sub Aqua Club tried Megadraw for the first time and raised £400 for new equipment to help train new members.
"The Megadraw money plus a donation by the Barnstaple Link club from their charity shop has helped so much this year. We were sceptical as it all sounded too good to be true but having now experienced probably the easiest way of raising funds we are looking forward to taking part again next year", said the club spokesman Jack Stocks.
