ILFRACOMBE Town Council is guaranteeing a warm welcome whatever the weather on Wednesday of next week (December 3) when the town switches on its Christmas Lights. Doors to the town council building in the centre of the High Street, will be open to all from 7pm for people to come in from the cold, sample refreshments and find out more about their council. Ilfracombe Mayor, Councillor Geoff Fowler, will be especially busy on the night, as he will be leading the procession as well as joining council members and officers for the open evening. "As a council, we try to be as open and accessible to our constituents as possible," he said."People can, of course, contact us at any time with a question or concern but at the open evening people can just pop in and say hello, discuss some of the plans in place for the town or talk to us about a particular issue if they want to."As well as welcoming visitors on the night, councillors will be launching a scheme to begin the following week, also aimed at greater accessibility. "We have set aside half an hour prior to every town council meeting to meet with any member of the public who calls in," added Mr Fowler."We have been elected to represent our constituents - so we need to know what concerns them and what they want for the town."No appointments are necessary for the surgeries, which will take place between 6.30-7pm on Monday evenings when there is a council meeting booked. Call the Ilfracombe Centre on (01271) 855300 or visit www.ilfracombe-tc.gov.uk for a meeting calendar.
