Meal out for well mannered pupils

THERE was school dinner with a difference for well mannered youngsters from Our Lady’s Roman Catholic School in Barnstaple on Friday.

They were taken to the Table Table restaurant at Barum Gate, who gave them a free meal of their choice as a reward for their good behaviour and table manners at school.

Head teacher Kelly Dunn explained that they run a lunchtime competition at the school, awarding stars to the tables of children who show the best manners and behaviour, use of utensils, say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and help those younger than themselves.

At the end of term the two winning tables are rewarded by being taken out to a three-course lunch, courtesy of Barum Gate.

Young Christopher Cohen said for the pupils: “This is a really good idea. When the stars competition came in you could see the improvement in table manners in school and if any of the younger ones is not eating well, a reminder of the stars chart motivates them to do better.”
