THE 11th Ilfracombe May Day Celebrations took place on Monday under sunny skies and with plenty of leaping green-clad characters to welcome the arrival of summer in style.
A large parade through the High Street was led by Town Crier Roy Goodwin, followed by the enigmatic leafed Jack-in-the-Green, the Lord and Lady of Misrule, May Queen Becky Fisher and attendants plus dancers, drummers and revellers.
These included energetic street drummers Humdrumconundrum, plus drummers from West Buckland, the Ilfracombe Red Petticoats and Morris groups Borderline, Bideford Phoenix and Carnkie Cloggers.
At the seafront there was maypole and country dancing from Ilfracombe junior and infant school children followed by the Morris groups.
