Magistrate orders destruction of drugs after police carried out warrant

A Fremington man who bought £2,000-worth of cannabis in a ‘crazy deal’ has been fined a total of £285 by North Devon Magistrates’ Court.

Martin Barnsby, 35, of Sampson’s Plantation, appeared before the court on Friday after a July drugs raid found nearly 200 grammes of the class B drug stored in a Jacob’s cream cracker tin.

Defence solicitor Zara Svenson said Barnsby had been offered a ‘crazy deal’ and only paid £200 for the drugs, which had a street value of £1,887 and which he planned to ‘make last until Christmas.’

Lead Magistrate Mrs Lock ordered Barnsby to pay a total of £285 after costs, and ordered that the drugs be destroyed.
