A man was taken to hospital after his car collided with a lamppost at Chaddiford Lane in Barnstaple this morning (Friday.)

His white Daihatsu was the only vehicle involved in the incident just after 11.10am, which took place outside Somerfield, police said.

The fire service was called to the scene by South Western Ambulance Service, but on arrival found the Barnstaple fire crew found the man was clear of his vehicle. Fire fighters used small tools to make the vehicle safe.

The driver was taken to North Devon District Hospital by the ambulance. The extent of his injuries are unknown, but no serious injuries had been reported to police.
