Man rescued after building collapse

Casualty airlifted to hospital after rescue by firefighters

A MAN was airlifted to hospital after being rescued from a collapsed building yesterday morning (Monday).

Two fire engines from Bideford rushed to the scene after a wooden porch gave way from a cottage on the outskirts of Westleigh.

They discovered that the porch had come away from the building just as the unnamed occupant had walked out of his front door.

The fire service worked with paramedics to remove the structure from the trapped man and transfer him onto a stretcher and into a Devon Air Ambulance, which took him on to North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.
