A man has narrowly escaped jail after an incident which saw armed police and hostage negotiators called out to Northam.
Kai Andrew Clements, 21, of Union Close, Bideford, was remanded in custody by police after the incident on Saturday and appeared at North Devon Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Monday).
He pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke violence, to two police constables at the scene.
Magistrates sentenced Clements to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, due to the serious nature of the threats made.
