Officers are appealing to anyone who finds any discarded items of clothing near Summerland Stores or 6-7 inch knife.

A man has been arrested following an alleged attempted armed robbery at Summerland Stores in Barnstaple yesterday (Sunday).

At around 9.45pm a man entered the stores and allegedly threatened staff with a knife.

He made off from the scene but was located after police dogs searched the nearby area.

The 20-year-old from Merseyside was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in police custody today (Monday).

Officers are now asking for witnesses to come forward, as well as appealing to find items believed to be discarded by the man.

The man was wearing a bright blue puffer jacket, blue tracksuit bottoms, white trainers and a bandana with a pattern on it similar to a skull and crossbones.

Police are appealing for local residents to keep an eye out for possible discarded clothing such as the bandana, as well as the 6-7 inch black handled knife.

Anyone who saw the man run from the store, or finds any of the missing items, is asked to contact DC Kerry Moth on or non-emergency number 101, quoting log number 980 of the August 2.
