Man and teenager arrested over Swimbridge car theft

Vehicle was set alight in nearby quarry

A 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl from Barnstaple have been arrested in connection with an alleged vehicle theft in Swimbridge.

A blue Mitsubishi Shogun was taken from a farm in the village some time on Tuesday night. It was later discovered on fire at the nearby Venn Quarry.

A fire crew from Barnstaple was called to extinguish the car, which is described as “severely damaged”.

The suspects were arrested at 2.45am on Wednesday. They have been released on police bail to return to Barnstaple Police Station on Tuesday, March 15.
