SIR - I note that the consultation period for public comment on the Core Strategy document covering North Devon and Torridge areas has been extended to January 31 due to the poor response. This doesn't surprise me, given the nature of this arid publication which is presented and written in such a way as to virtually discourage any comment from anyone, apart from developers who have a huge interest in backing the vast quantity of new housing proposed. As an example of such proposals, in my own area of Northam, Westward Ho! and Appledore, nearly 2,000 houses are proposed on several sites, including the Buckleigh Road area where nearly 1,000 dwellings are suggested.. Other sites include Bloody Corner, Knapp, Atlantic Way and Sandymere.Despite its daunting nature (which in my view makes a mockery of public consultation), I urge the public to attempt to access the document and make comments before the deadline. The policies on housing, infrastructure, energy, employment, highways and other issues are too important to ignore.P. Hames, Northam.
