Police have confirmed a man, who has yet to have been identified, has died. The motorway has been closed between junctions 28 and 29 for those travelling southbound following the incident. A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: Emergency services have closed a southbound stretch of the M5 between J28 and J29, Cullompton to Exeter, as part of a police incident. Police were called at around 6:40am with reports of multiple vehicles having collided with the body of a man who believed to have been on the road. Officers are now at the scene and can confirm that there is one deceased man who has yet to have been identified. Northbound remains open at this time, we ask that road users seek alternative routes for the foreseeable future. Highways England is advising drivers to expect delays It is likely that the carriageway will remain closed beyond the morning peak and drivers are urged to consider delaying their journeys or use alternative routes. Southbound traffic prior to junction 28 is advised to follow the solid black triangle diversion. Update: The southbound carriageway was reopened shortly before 4pm after police completed their investigations.
