A Northumberland woman has written to the Gazette with a historical mystery.
Linden Stephenson bought a job lot of old pictures and among them was a print etching of Lynmouth, together with a signed card headed ‘American Tennis Tournament August 1945’ and apparently signed by all the competitors.
She thinks someone who took part at the time or their family might like it as a family history memento and is happy to donate it.
She was struck by the fact the Second World War had just ended and the community took it upon themselves to organise a tournament and would like to know the story behind it.
She believes the signed picture could possibly have been part of the prize for the winner.
She said: “If it’s anything like where I live, it’s the same families around for centuries.
“It would just be nice if somebody from one fo those families ended up with it.”
